I love Final Fantasy 1

Image
I love Final Fantasy 1. Anyone who's talked to me over the past couple of days can attest to this; I feel like I could go on and on about the music, the world, the gameplay, all of it. It's not like it has a particularly noteworthy story, nothing more than 4 heroes of legend are destined to bring light back to the world, helping kidnapped princesses and slumbering kings along the way. However, it doesn't need anything like that because it's just a really fun game. Sure, compared to other JRPGs that have released since, it's bare-bones and simple. But there's a certain level of charm that comes from that simplicity, and there's still a decent level of strategy when it comes to dealing with boss fights and managing the magic slot system. Beating Chaos took around 40-50 minutes, and seeing him crumble to dust was oh so satisfying.  AND THE SOUNDTRACK DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE SOUNDTRACK IT'S SO GOOD PLEASE LISTEN TO FINAL FANTASY MUSIC GO DO IT

Xenoglossia's Shine: Sowing the Seeds for Future Brilliance

I’m going to start by making one thing clear: I don’t like The iDOLM@STER Xenoglossia . Its very existence is beyond my comprehension, robot/pilot romance is very weird, and it completely bastardizes some of my favorite characters. I watched three episodes with a friend before we both had to stop for the sake of maintaining at least some mental stability, and I’m not planning on going any further than that, especially from what I know about the rest of the series and how it ultimately ends. But something I always found completely baffling about it is the team behind it. The anime was released in 2007 and directed by one Tatsuyuki Nagai, who in following years would go on to direct the 2008 anime adaptation of Toradora —a personal favorite of mine—as well as the adaptation of A Certain Scientific Railgun , which has recently become very near and dear to me (watch Railgun btw it’s amazing). Moreover, the lead writer was Jukki Hanada, who would later go on to serve as the main writ

The Infernal Engine of Disco Elysium

“Hours turn to days. Soon he will get up again and go through it – again! Again! Finally, we know what the infernal engine was, outside –the clarion call…”             “The engine of a Coupris Kineema…”             “No. It was HIM . HE is the infernal engine, can’t you see? He never stops. He only gets worse.”             Disco Elysium is a game about a lot of things. It’s about being a detective, about exploring an unfamiliar place that soon becomes like home. It’s about choices and meaning and experiences. It’s about brokenness, with a broken protagonist in a broken world trying to piece things together no matter how pointless it may seem. But more than anything else, it’s about what it means to be human. Humanism is the lifeblood of Disco Elysium , the philosophy that there’s no higher power, no afterlife; you get one life, one chance, and that’s it. But if that’s true, then what’s the point? Why even bother existing, or even living? What meaning is there to be found

Love Live's Sunset, Starting From Zero, and Giga Drill Break: A Collection of Threads from twitter.com user @youtaroyoujo

While I don't really have anything Love Live related to write about at the moment, I have written threads about it before; here are two of those that I'm pretty proud of, and one about Gurren Lagann because why not lol Significance of the Beach (10/26/20): This was the first non-reactionary thread I posted on Twitter, and technically the first time I wrote an extended piece on Love Live in general. I did my best to account for Twitter’s character limit, so some things were worded somewhat strangely, but I’m still happy with how it turned out. I made some adjustments to it, but the content itself is intact. In Season 2, Episode 11 of School Idol Project, when Honoka says she wants to go to the beach, her exact words are: “I want to go to an abandoned beach with just us and see something only we can see.” When you consider SIP alone, it’s simply a reference to that beautiful sunset. But when you consider Sunshine as well, and the fact that Aqours doesn’t truly begin until they

Spreading your Wings: Understanding Just be myself!!

For the longest time, my only experience with iDOLM@STER was the 2011 anime. Since then I’ve become much more acquainted with the franchise, but my love for it is still deeply rooted in 765PRO. Anybody who knows me knows how much I love Haruka Amami, but when it comes to characters that mean the world to me, Chihaya Kisaragi is right behind her. I relate to her a lot honestly, with her passion for what she loves and her quiet awkwardness; I love her friendship with Haruka, and her growth over the course of the anime is such a powerful experience I wish I could find the words to describe how it made me feel. So when I played Mirishita (Million Live Theater Days) and heard Just be myself!! for the first time, it honestly made me tear up. Even if I didn’t understand the words, I could feel the emotion in her voice, her inflection; it reminded me of her resounding solo when she performed Yakusoku , and her pure joy in singing Nemuri Hime . Over time it’s slowly become one of my favorite s

Why I love Amami Haruka

Some of my favorite characters are ones that I closely relate too. I see a bit (or sometimes all) of myself in them: their personalities, their struggles, and what’s important to them. Most of all, when they are able to overcome their hardships, it’s really inspiring to me; it makes me want to do my best too, to become my best self and not let my self-doubts get in the way. To say that Amami Haruka is one of my favorite characters would honestly be a bit of an understatement. When I first watched the iDOLM@STER and was introduced to the clumsy idol with a can-do attitude and a smile from ear to ear, I never expected that she would be someone who I connected with as much as I do now. She always had a smile on her face, and always tried to support her fellow idols, especially her friend Chihaya. She’s their friend and motivator, the one who always encouraged everyone to do their best, even when they were at what felt like their lowest point. She never lets anything get her down. Abov
